Projects

Our club is involved in a variety of projects that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide.  Below are the projects in which we are currently involved:

Service Leadership

Boonslick Kiwanis partners with K-Kids at Lee Elementary School, Builder's Clubs at Gentry Middle School and Jefferson Middle School, Key Club at Rock Bridge High School and with the Aktion Club, serving adults with disabilities. We help them develop leadership and hope to instill a desire to perform public service. Some of the officers were interviewed by David Lile on KFRU to discuss their participation.

In 2017, Boonslick held its first ever Service Leadership Celebration to recognize the accomplishments and participation of the members and sponsors in each of the organizations. The club secretary, Rebekah Robertson, shared information about the celebration with the public on KFRU.

Reading Device Drive

Boonslick Kiwanis is helping with the Columbia Reads project by participating in the “Donate a Device Campaign” portion of the project.  

The Columbia Reads project’s goal is to provide basic pre-school reading readiness materials to children that do not otherwise have access to reading readiness experiences and or materials in their homes.  The initial target community is those children, currently living in the Columbia Housing Authority units that are in desperate need of support prior to their formal educational experience that will begin at age five.

The “Donate a Device Campaign” involves creating a general awareness of the project, collecting and forwarding used e-readers and older tablets that the community at large are willing to donate and actively soliciting the public for donations and grants to help obtain a critical number of reading devices for distribution.  

Ronald McDonald House

Boonslick Kiwanis is helping to collect items for the Ronald McDonald House. Items may be dropped off at the Boonslick Kiwanis weekly club meeting (7:00 am - 8:00 am at the Rockbridge HyVee).  For a list of items needed, please click here.

Little Free Library

Nick Lowry established a Little Free Library at Cosmo Park at the Steinhouse playground as his Eagle Scout project. Boonslick Kiwanis took over maintenance and book donations when Nick started attending Missouri State University.
